Math Encounters
Upcoming presentation
“How Big is Infinity? How Big is Your Mind?”
Featuring Lew Ludwig
Wednesday, June 10
Presentations at 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm
(in person)
Infinity is one of the most mysterious ideas in human thought — it’s not a number you can calculate or a destination you can reach. Join Lew Ludwig, Professor of Mathematics at Denison University, for a journey into this elusive concept along with a surprising question: are there actually different sizes of infinity? What could “size” mean when nothing ever ends, and how can we compare two quantities that are both infinite? Through hands-on activities and guided inquiry, we’ll explore these seemingly impossible ideas and reveal what human reasoning can uncover about the infinite. No advanced mathematics is required — just curiosity and an open mind.
