ICM Outreach
Tentative Plans
Starring Math: Public Film Screenings and Discussions
Bringing mathematics to the big screen, this public-facing event will feature engaging math-themed films shown at a local theater, paired with dynamic post-screening discussions led by mathematicians, educators, and filmmakers. These events will invite both ICM attendees and members of the broader public to explore mathematics through storytelling, art, and conversation.
Math + Sports: Analytics in Action
Philadelphia’s rich sports culture provides an ideal setting for a compelling conversation at the intersection of mathematics and athletics. Representatives from the Phillies’ data analytics department and the Flyers’ leadership have expressed interest in participating in a panel discussion that explores the real-world applications of mathematics in professional sports. Additional teams and moderators with dual expertise in math and sports are being considered. This event promises to attract diverse audiences and highlight the relevance of mathematics in popular culture.
Reception at the American Philosophical Society
Founded by Benjamin Franklin, the American Philosophical Society is home to an extraordinary collection of historical documents and scientific artifacts. A special reception will provide ICM attendees with an opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue in a venue that reflects both the intellectual legacy and civic ideals of Philadelphia.
Mural Arts Collaboration
In partnership with Philadelphia’s internationally recognized Mural Arts Program, this initiative will result in a permanent, large-scale public artwork celebrating the beauty and impact of mathematics. Designed by local artists in collaboration with mathematicians, the mural will be a lasting tribute to ICM 2026 and its presence in the city a visible and inspiring symbol of math’s connection to creativity, community, and public space.
ICM Outreach Exhibits
Applications are now open for interactive and visually engaging exhibits that will be featured during ICM 2026. Designed to appeal to a broad range of audiences, from young students to math professionals, these temporary exhibits may include artistic works, hands-on activities, or immersive experiences. The goal is to make the depth and beauty of mathematics accessible to all and to amplify the Congress’s public impact.
MoMath Mini-Festival
Building on the success of its annual New York City Math Festival, the National Museum of Mathematics will present a dynamic two-day public math festival as part of ICM 2026. This engaging outreach event will transform a central Philadelphia venue into a hands-on celebration of mathematics for all ages. Presented by a seasoned team of MoMath educators, the Mini-Festival will provide a joyful and accessible entry point to mathematics for families, students, and community members, while amplifying the public impact of ICM 2026.
