Fun with Fibonacci and the Glorious Golden Ratio

Patterns are at the heart of mathematics, and few are more captivating than those found in the Fibonacci sequence: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, … As the sequence unfolds, the ratio of consecutive terms approaches 1.618…, the celebrated Golden Ratio, a number with remarkable mathematical properties and surprising appearances in art, nature, and popular culture. In this four-week minicourse, participants will explore the beauty, structure, and applications of Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Ratio. Each presentation is self-contained, so participants may attend any individual session or enjoy the full series. The course will be taught by Dr. Arthur Benjamin, Past President of the Fibonacci Association, who has written extensively on these numbers and their many mathematical connections.

About the presenter
Meet Dr. Arthur Benjamin, Smallwood Family Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California as well as a professional magician. He is also a NYT bestselling author who has presented all over the world; he has given TED talks with more than 50 million views; and he has appeared many times on TV, radio, and in the press, including The Today Show, CNN, National Public Radio, The Colbert Report, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Scientific American, Discover, Omni, Esquire, People magazine, and Reader's Digest.

Program Policies
MoMath adheres to a strict no-refund policy.
All child participants under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult, who must also be registered for this minicourse. The Museum reserves the right to remove an unchaperoned student from the program and no refund nor credit will be issued.
This is an in-person event at the National Museum of Mathematics, located at 635 Sixth Avenue, in Manhattan. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the event start time to check in and be seated.
