Unlimited, MoMath's mix-n-mingle program for students in middle and high school
Sunday, December 17
6:30 pm to 8:00 pm ET
A students-only event!
(in person)
Middle and high school students, come indulge in an evening of mathematical (and parent-free!) fun at MoMath's mix-n-mingle program. This month, chat with Carnegie Mellon math professor Po-Shen Loh about math, how to use math, or what it’s like to be a person who does math. Plus, explore dynamic exhibits, enjoy fun, hands-on mathematical exploration, and boogie down on New York City's only interactive, light-up Voronoi dance floor, all with a peer group that thinks math is cool. Be sure to stop by the Octachoron Café, where hot cocoa and chocolate chip cookies await!
During the pandemic, Carnegie Mellon math professor Po-Shen Loh ran daily YouTube Live streams for 3 months, during which he answered all sorts of questions that middle and high schoolers asked, from all over the world. He will bring that opportunity to MoMath, live and in person, at a unique, small-group event where people won’t be lost in the crowd. Prof. Loh’s experience ranges from participating in math contests as a student, where he eventually won a silver medal at the International Math Olympiad, to discovering new research results in network theory, to coaching the national math team, to inventing a new way to control pandemics, to starting a social-impact company, to bridging the worlds of math and theater to transform education. He has appeared numerous times in national newspapers, and has co-created videos totaling over 19 million YouTube views.
Unlimited is designed exclusively for students in middle and high school.
This is an in-person event at the National Museum of Mathematics (11 E 26th St).
