Math Encounters: "Dice, Stamps, and Counting: Putting Polynomials to Work" with Brian Hopkins (4:00 pm)
Come on, lucky 7! Is it possible to label two dice differently and still get the same results as normal dice? And if you have only four-cent and seven-cent stamps, what different totals can you make? How can polynomials help with these kinds of questions? Join mathematician Brian Hopkins as we explore generating functions (a way to count using polynomials) to solve these problems and more.
Special introduction by Tony-nominated actress Kathleen Chalfant, winner of the 2018 Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement.
