Folding Tech: Using Origami
and Nature to Revolutionize Technology
by Karen Latchana Kenney
Hosted by Ingrid Daubechies
Saturday, February 10
2:45 pm to 3:45 pm
(in person)
Are you a budding mathematician between the ages of 10 and 17 who loves reading? Would you like to make new friends your age who share your passion for mathematics and literature? Join us in person for Tween Primes, the MoMath book club for tweens and teens.
Space probes, self-assembling robots, crash-absorbing cars, and designer proteins all have one thing in common: their use of folding technologies. To develop these technologies, engineers are taking inspiration from an unusual source — origami, the ancient art of paper folding. Examine origami's origins, how it intersects with mathematics, and how it became a tool to solve some of the most complicated challenges in engineering, architecture, technology, and medicine today.
Note: General admission to the Museum is NOT included with your event ticket. If you would like to explore the Museum before the session begins, you may purchase an admission ticket or join as a MoMath member.
