MathPlay for Pentagons (5s):
"Place Value: Zero the Hero"
Tuesday, December 15 at 5:45 pm ET (New York)
Students will learn to interpret the digits in the tens and ones positions of two-digit numbers. They will decompose numbers to determine how many tens and ones are in each. In a game of Number Bingo, students will get clues about how many tens and ones are in a number and then try to find that number on a bingo card. Students will hear the story of Zero the Hero and how he helped create new numbers greater than nine by joining with his friends, the numbers One through Nine.
Materials needed: activity sheets to be provided (to print prior to session) and one marker or pencil.
