Mathematical Fusion: "Geometry and Number Theory"

Part three of a series with Paul Zeitz
Wednesday, October 28 at 6:30 pm ET

Join MoMath favorite Paul Zeitz in a three-part series exploring branches of math that fuse two seemingly mismatched topics.

Part three: Hermann Minkowski realized that his student Einstein’s relativity theory implied the marriage of space and time.  But a decade earlier, Minkowski presided over another unexpected union, that of geometry and number theory.  Investigate Minkowski’s little-known “geometry of numbers” to see how a careful contemplation of area, volume, and graph paper leads to surprising insight into questions that eluded mathematicians for years.
