MathPlay for Pentagons (5s):
"A First Taste of Fractions"
Thursday, December 3 at 4:00 pm ET (New York)
Students will learn that when you take a shape and divide it — by folding, for instance — into equal parts, the parts are called fractions. They will learn how to distinguish between a whole, a half, a third, and a quarter. Students will interpret numerators and denominators, identify what fraction of a shape is shaded, and shade specified fractions of given shapes.
Materials needed: activity sheets to be provided (to print and cut prior to session) and one marker or pencil.
