Starring Math

Monday, October 25 at 7:00 pm ET (New York)

(online)

The series kicks off with an Oscar-winning movie about a Nobel-winning mathematician: A Beautiful Mind, starring Russell Crowe as the brilliant John Nash.  Joining Steve to discuss this film are professors Sylvain Cappell (New York University), who had many conversations with John Nash over the years and advised director Ron Howard on the making of the film, Dave Bayer (Columbia University), who was the film's math consultant and the mathematical hand model for Russell Crowe, and Alex Kontorovich (Rutgers University), who worked with Nash near the end of his life, when Kontorovich was an undergraduate at Princeton.

Please watch A Beautiful Mind at your leisure in the days leading up to the event.  Subscribers to Amazon Prime, Sling, and/or Hulu can stream the film for free.  If you don't subscribe to any of those, you can rent the film for $3.99 from YouTube or Apple TV.

Though viewing each film is not required for participation, guests will be asked to stream the movies independently prior to the event.

Please note that this is an online-only event; all registrants will be participating remotely.  Occasional video recordings are made available for a fee at videos.momath.org.
