Alice's Adventures in Short Division
Thursday, October 15 at 5:45 pm ET (New York)
Appropriate for ages 10 and up
Join Joshua Zucker on a trip down the rabbit hole of division, relating fractions and decimals. We'll go around and around in loopy mathematical structures to discover that remainders are more important than digits in explaining why repeating decimals behave the way they do.
Prerequisites: Lots of experience with division (long or short division) and thinking about quotients and remainders. Familiarity with converting fractions to decimals is useful.
This is a live-streamed event. Occasional video recordings are made available for a fee at videos.momath.org.
