MathPlay Mini
Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24
Click here for next week’s schedule.
Led by an experienced preschool specialist, MathPlay Mini offers children the opportunity to play well-developed games that help broaden math skills, improve problem-solving skills, and enhance communication skills. Recent studies have shown that a child’s math skills upon entering kindergarten can be a strong predictor of future academic performance in both math and reading throughout the elementary grades. Math learning promotes working memory, improves attention, and increases other basic cognitive skills.
Engage your preschoolers in playful activities to help them develop a strong foundation in math. Children will participate in songs, stories, and activities tied to a different theme each week. Patterns, shapes, numbers, and more — MathPlay Mini is a great way to enrich your child’s day with mathematical inspiration.
All times listed below are in Eastern Daylight Time (New York). Please click on a time to register.

Daily Sessions
Each session is repeated at multiple times during the week to accommodate different schedules; choose the date and time that works best for you! Please note that sessions by the same name are repeated sessions, not continuations of earlier sessions.
After you register for your 30-minute session, you will be sent a link and instructions so you may join the fun through a video conferencing platform.
Sessions Themes
MathPlay Mini’s online sessions offer several inspiring, mathematical themes for children 3-years-old and 4- and 5-years-old.
Patterns (3-year-olds)
Patterns of shapes, colors, numbers, movements, and sounds will be used to help students strengthen a variety of skills. Patterns help children to learn to how make predictions, to understand what comes next, to make logical connections and use reasoning skills. Students will have fun identifying and extending patterns. They will also create and draw their own shape patterns. Materials needed: activity sheets to be provided (to print prior to session) and one marker or crayon.
Strategies to Solve Addition Problems (4- and 5-year-olds)
Number lines and ten frames are two of tools students will use to solve addition word problems. Number lines provide children with a visual of numbers as they count forward and backward. Familiarity with number lines will also help them work with other math tools including graphs and rulers. Working with ten frames enables children to develop and sense of “ten-ness”, which helps them to make a connection with numbers and perform mental math with ease. Materials needed: activity sheets to be provided (to print prior to session) and one marker or crayon.
Registration Fees
Classes are pay-if-you-can. In each class, a select number of spots will be offered for free to families requiring financial aid. Please only register for a free spot if you are a family facing significant financial hardship.
