Once Upon A Prime: The Wondrous Connections Between Mathematics And Literature

Wednesday, September 13 at 5:30 pm

(in person)

We often think of mathematics and literature as polar opposites.  But what if, instead, they were fundamentally linked?  Did you know, for instance, that Moby Dick is full of sophisticated geometry?  That James Joyce’s stream-of-consciousness novels are deliberately checkered with mathematical references?  That George Eliot was obsessed with statistics?  That Jurassic Park is undergirded by fractal patterns?  That Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie wrote mathematician characters?

Join MoMath’s Distinguished Visiting Professor Ingrid Daubechies as she welcomes Sarah Hart for an engaging conversation about Sarah’s book, Once Upon A Prime: The Wondrous Connections Between Mathematics And Literature.  Learn more about the many connections between math and literature when you come by MoMath to meet Sarah in person.  Signed copies of Once Upon a Prime will be available for purchase and refreshments will be served.

Not in NYC?  Don’t worry, you can still connect with Sarah, along with Ingrid Daubechies, MoMath’s Distinguished Visiting Professor, later that evening for Volumes, the MoMath book club, as they lead an online discussion of Once Upon A Prime!  Learn more and register at volumes.momath.org.
