Algorithmic Art
with Curved Creases, Fonts, and Puzzles
Featuring Erik and Martin Demaine
Sunday, November 19 at 10:00 am
(in person)
Join Erik Demaine — the youngest-ever full professor at MIT — and his father, MIT artist-in-residence Martin Demaine, in an exploration along several fronts that connect art and mathematics. From their trademark folded paper sculptures — including the largest piece yet, standing at 14 feet tall — to fashion design and their recent collaboration with Uyen Nguyen, the Demaines will astound you with their beautiful transformations of paper into art. Then, it’s a journey into the world of mathematical fonts, where even things like the game of Tetris can become a font and where font-based puzzles provide yet another surprising connection to mathematics.
