MathPlay Mini
Monday, April 13 through Friday, April 17
Click here for next week’s schedule.
Led by an experienced preschool specialist, MathPlay Mini offers children the opportunity to play well-developed games that help broaden math skills, improve problem-solving skills, and enhance communication skills. Recent studies have shown that a child’s math skills upon entering kindergarten can be a strong predictor of future academic performance in both math and reading throughout the elementary grades. Math learning promotes working memory, improves attention, and increases other basic cognitive skills.
Engage your preschoolers in playful activities to help them develop a strong foundation in math. Children will participate in songs, stories, and activities tied to a different theme each week. Patterns, shapes, numbers, and more — MathPlay Mini is a great way to enrich your child’s day with mathematical inspiration.
All times listed below are in Eastern Daylight Time (New York). Please click on a time to register.

Daily Sessions
Each session is repeated at multiple times during the week to accommodate different schedules; choose the date and time that works best for you! Please note that sessions by the same name are repeated sessions, not continuations of earlier sessions.
After you register for your 30-minute session, you will be sent a link and instructions so you may join the fun through a video conferencing platform.
Sessions Themes
MathPlay Mini’s online sessions offer several inspiring, mathematical themes for children 3-years-old and 4- and 5-years-old.
Subitizing: Subitizing sounds like a big skill for preschool, but simply put subitizing is the ability to quickly identify the number of items in a small set without counting. For example, in the picture below you see 2 dice that represent three and five. Did you have to count them or could you subitize? Math researchers have identified the ability to subitize as an important part of developing basic number sense skills. Students will participate online in counting, number recognition and addition activities with dice. Materials needed: activity sheets to be provided (to print prior to session) and one marker or crayon.
Dots on a Ten Frame: A ten frame is a rectangle, separated into two rows with 10 equal spaces. Working with ten frames help children to develop a deeper understanding of number sense. In this class students will participate in fun activities, which compose and decompose numbers in relation to 5 and 10. Students will also be introduced to the basic of understanding place value (example: numbers like 12 are a ten and two ones), and use ten frames to solve addition problems. Materials needed: activity sheets to be provided (to print prior to session) and one marker or crayon.
Registration Fees
Classes are pay-if-you-can. In each class, a select number of spots will be offered for free to families requiring financial aid. Please only register for a free spot if you are a family facing significant financial hardship.
Session Policies
Strictly no refunds, no credits, and no transfers will be permitted. Spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
