Lobby Wall Simulation (conceptual overhead view)
This concept for the MoMath lobby dynamic wall involves approximately 200 rectangular slats, each with a servo motor at top and bottom. The servos move independently under computer control, so an infinite number of different patterns are possible. A control panel allows visitors to select predefined motions or define arbitrary functions of position and time. In the animation above, a traveling wave at the bottom moves towards the front of the museum and another traveling wave at the top with twice the wave length moves to the back of the museum. It is an engaging visual paradox to see one surface moving in opposite directions simultaneously.
