Math Encounters: "Calculated Risk: Living is a Dangerous Business" with Jen Rogers (7:00 pm)

Real life involves risks, from cycling without a helmet to visiting a country with contagious diseases to living near the water. Sometimes your perception of risk is distorted, making you think that some things are more — or less — risky than is actually the case. How statistically significant are the risks that we see? And what do the numbers mean? Jen Rogers, Director of Statistical Consultancy Services for the University of Oxford, demonstrates how statistics can be used to make better decisions about risky activities. There will be a special video introduction by Matt Parker.

This page is for the 7:00 pm session. Click here to register for the 4:00 pm session instead.

Light refreshments will be served after the 4:00 pm session and at 6:30 pm in advance of the second session.
