"Creative Math Insights for the Everyday — Sports and Recreation Edition" with Po-Shen Loh

What do mathematics and athletics have in common?  Po-Shen Loh, professor of Mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University and coach of the three-time gold medal-winning USA International Mathematical Olympiad team, returns to MoMath for one night only to share puzzles that illustrate how mathematical thinking can provide new understanding in the athletic world and vice versa.  See how mathematical reasoning can help us make sense out of these thought-provoking situations, and experience the surprising and fun nature of mathematics in the process.

An understanding of basic probability is strongly suggested.

Note: These insights were accumulated from over a year of mathematical introspection on topics of common interest, and are available as weekly interactive challenges on expii.com/solve.  Several have appeared in features in The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and on FiveThirtyEight (part of ABC News).
