Educators, get ready to switch gears and explore the mathematics lurking between the folds! Put your pattern recognition skills to the test and chase your conjectures in two back-to-back sessions for one full day of professional development.

Spirographology: What’s the hidden mathematics of Spirograph?  In this session, we will explore the interplay of arithmetic and geometry that makes Spirographic designs so pleasing.

Folding Fractals: What does it mean to be self-similar?  In this session, we will discover some properties of dragon curves, simple fractals whose iterations can be found by folding paper.

Special bonus:  arrive by 9:45 am for a chance to meet and greet James Tanton, founder of The Global Math Project, whose goal is to excite and delight one million students during a special week in October 2017.
