Come celebrate Compounding Visions, the first exhibition in MoMath's new Composite gallery. Join us for a conversation with artists Trevor and Ryan Oakes, on May 27 at 7 pm; this will be the first in a series of talks surrounding the gallery and its artists.

In this presentation, the Oakes will discuss the conceptual development of their method for creating spherically concave drawings — a technique that has been described as one of the most original breakthroughs in the rendering of visual space since the Renaissance. They will recap stories of drawings past, and recount obstacles met along the way.

Presently, as a live component to their exhibition, the artists are spending three to four weeks creating a new concave drawing of the Flatiron Building from a vantage in Madison Square Park, using their custom curved metal easel and referencing Edward Steichen's haunting iconic 1904 photograph of that then-freshly-built NYC landmark. During this episode of Composite Chat, the Oakes will update participants on this and other recent projects, providing a rare snapshot of the artists in the midst of their work.

Catch them drawing in the park throughout the next month, watch their finished artwork unfold piece-by-piece onto the gallery walls, and hear them describe their process firsthand next Tuesday, May 27 at 7 pm during Composite Chat — only at MoMath.
