The Math of a Milkshake
by Katie Steckles

Explore the key principles and practice of everyday science by using analogies, experiments and research with food and drink in the home kitchen environment.  In The Math of a Milkshake, you'll discover the truth about pizza portions, learn about the symmetry of fruit, and conduct probability experiments with jelly beans!

Katie Steckles is a mathematician based in Manchester, England.  She finished her PhD in 2011, and since then she has talked about math in schools, at science festivals, on BBC radio and TV, at music festivals, as part of theatre shows, and on the internet.  She lectures part-time in mathematics at Sheffield Hallam University, in the Institute of Education.

This is an online-only event; all registrants will be participating remotely.  Occasional video recordings are made available for a fee at videos.momath.org.

Participants should read The Math of a Milkshake ahead of the event.

Order your book today from Additions, the shop at MoMath, and help support the premier math museum in North America while also scoring free admission for your teen or tween to this engaging conversation with author Katie Steckles.  Just place your order online or stop by the shop, then forward or email an image of your receipt to additions@momath.org along with the name of the teen/tween you wish to register, free of charge, for this interesting group discussion, hosted on Zoom.
