Family Fridays:
"Playing with Plato"

Friday, July 16 at 6:30 pm ET (New York)

Online

Playing with regular polygons (shapes with all angles equal and all sides equal) can be great fun! There are triangles (three sides), squares (four sides), pentagons (five sides), hexagons (six sides)...and so on, forever.  But what if you move into the third dimension?  Suddenly, the story is shockingly different!  Grab some toothpicks, stock up on marshmallows, and strap in for a wild ride through regularity.  Who knows, we may even visit a little bit of hyperbolic space!

This month's Family Fridays features MoMath's 2020-2021 Distinguished Visiting Professor for the Public Dissemination of Mathematics and Rutgers math professor Alex Kontorovich.

To fully participate, have the following handy:

  • Mini marshmallows or jelly beans
  • Toothpicks
  • Paper
  • Pencil

This is a live-streamed event.  Occasional video recordings are made available for a fee at videos.momath.org.
