"Donuts, Pies, and Pizza: Fractions"

How much is a whole? What is a half? By dividing favorite foods into parts of equal size, children will explore the world of fractions. Children will delight hearing about a brother and sister who try to split a pizza in half in the story Give My Half by Stuart Murphy. Then, they’ll make paper pizzas with different combinations of toppings — 1/2 pepperoni, 1/2 mushroom, anyone?
Materials needed: activity sheets to be provided (to print and cut prior to session) and one marker or pencil.
