Renowned mathematician and Berkeley professor Edward Frenkel talks about his critically acclaimed new book Love and Math, revealing a side of math we seldom see, suffused with the beauty and elegance of a work of art. Join us to discover the hidden magic universe of mathematics.  Best-selling author Jim Holt will also take part in the discussion to provide a literary perspective on Frenkel's recounting of his passionate affair with mathematics.

This unique Family Friday event will begin with readings and behind-the-scenes stories of Love and Math by its author.  The presentation will turn into a dialogue as Jim Holt brings out the themes that most struck him as a reader who is not himself a mathematical specialist.  And ultimately, it will become a discussion encompassing the audience as well, as MoMath’s two special guests welcome the questions and commentary of all.  Please join Frenkel and Holt in this examination of the beauty of mathematics and the sources of the human drive and inspiration to discover truth.

Jim Holt, a longtime contributor to the New Yorker, is the author of the bestselling 2012 book "Why Does the World Exist?: An Existential Detective Story," which was named one of the ten best books of the year by the New York Times Book Review.
